About the course
Royal County Down is, by almost universal consensus, the finest links course in the world. Set in the shadow of the Mourne Mountains, with Dundrum Bay stretching to the horizon, it is a course of extraordinary natural beauty and relentless challenge. Old Tom Morris laid out the original holes in 1889 for the sum of £4. Harry Vardon refined it. The result is a course that has stood the test of time and the scrutiny of the world's best players. It hosted The Open Championship in 2015 and will do so again. To play Royal County Down is to understand why golf was invented.
